DBB & DIB:
Double block and bleed valve
A trunnion-mounted ball valve with self-relieving seals and a bleed valve to vent the cavity. You close the ball valve and open the bleeder. Now you can de-pressurize the line downstream and open it up to work on it.
DIB – DOUBLE ISOLATION AND BLEED
API 6D Definition:
“Single valve with two seating surfaces, with two sealing surfaces, each of which, in the closed position, provides a seal against pressure from a single source, with a means of venting/bleeding the cavity between the sealing surfaces. This feature can be provided in one direction or in both directions”
This application requires either DPE Seat x Self Relieving Seat (DIB-2) or Double Piston Seat x Double Piston Seat (DIB-1). Both configurations of seating comply with The Alberta Occupational Health and Safety code for DIB Isolation. The intent is to provide isolation in applications where servicing of other equipment is required.
On the upstream high pressure side, both double piston and self-relieving seats rely primarily on the high pressure for sealing.
For both Self relieving x DPE and DPE x DPE seating, on the low pressure side where isolation is required, both configurations require the cavity pressure to provide the DPE sealing advantage. If the cavity is vented, the DPE seat will rely on spring force and downstream pressure, the same as a self-relieving seat.
For the DIB Self relieving x double piston (DIB-2) configuration, cavity over pressurization is internally controlled within the line.
For the DIB Double Piston x Double Piston (DIB-1)configuration, over pressurization of cavity is external.
Side Entry & Top Entry
Side entry ball valves are valves where the ball is assembled from the side part. The body construction comes in 2 or 3-pieces depending on the size/class. The combination of trunnion mounted balls and unique spring-loaded upstream sealing, provides bubble-tight shut-off and low operating torques, even at extremely high shut-off pressure. Side entry ball valves are the marked standard of ball valve types and should be the default choice for general service.
Top entry ball valves are valves where the ball is assembled from top side part. The top entry design enables maintenance keeping the valve in service: the valve internal parts can be inspected and repaired without removing the valve off the pipeline. The top entry ball valves are used at an application that require a minimal disassembly for in-line maintenances such high pressure application that require in-frequent maintenances or in case of butt welding end.
Soft Seat & Metal Seat
Soft Seat Ball Valve
Soft Seated Ball Valves are for bi-directional seal, bubble seal. The ordinary applicable material is: PTFE, RPTE, PPL, Delrin, PEEK and NYLON.
Metal Seated Ball Valve
Metal Seated ball valves are designed for high temperature, abrasive and corrosive applications.
Coating of Metal Seats
Often to prolong their life and especially in connection with severe service applications, Metal Ball valves will undergo a metal finishing process to further insulate the base metal from its environment and prevent corrosion and wear.
Chrome Plating – Hard Chrome Plating has often been utilised in the design of Ball Valve Seats but may be coming under threat from increased environmental concerns over the process. Hard Chrome provides a high level of hardness and wear resistance.
Tungsten Carbide – For more severe environments where severe flashing or hydraulic shock is expected, a harder coating will be required. If temperatures are below 150 Degrees Celsius then most often HVOF applied Tungsten Carbide coating will add a high level of corrosion and wear resistance whilst also offering low porosity.

Bolted Body & Welded Body
Bolted body trunnion ball valves feature easy mainteanance, as the body and bonnet is easy to be disassembled via the bolting between the body and bonnet.
Welding body ball valves is better to avoid the leakage path between the body and bonnet as the joint is by welding.
